Experience
After receiving my undergraduate degree in Biology from Lee University, I began a career that has included working as an environmental educator and as guide that leads expeditions for Outward Bound. Today, I teach high school science at a school especially for kids who have learning disabilities. These students have many of the disabilities we've all heard of - ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, ODD, and OCD. They deal with disorders such as auditory processing, visual processing, and expression receptive language. So many times, I have worked with students who have been marginalized or told that they simply weren't smart enough. Any student, whether they have a disability or not, will learn best when you step back and find creative ways to teach. When the information is presented in the right way that engages the learner, they will get it. My tutoring subjects are Trig, Algebra, Biology, study skills, test prep, homework support, and Environmental Science. My tutoring approach is informal and engaging. It puts the responsibility on the student to find the information and then sift through it. My goal is to create lifelong learners. When I am not focused on academics, I like being outdoors, especially rock climbing, backpacking, canoeing, and going on hiking adventures with Fletcher. He is my miniature Aussie doodle. I also enjoy some more passive activities. I like to read and have taken up learning to write code.
